So I was on Twitter today, scrolling through tweets, giggling at funny ones and commenting when necessary till I came across this poll being conducted by @NGTGentleTouch. The question for the poll read “It’s your wedding and your husband has a weird wish, which will you survive?”

  • No Makeup
  • Coloured wedding dress
  • Rock your natural hair
  • No bridal train

Honestly, aside the colored wedding dress option, I don’t really see anything weird about the others but judging from how most ladies of today have taken weddings to the next level and the amount of effort and preparation they put into it, I understand the point they are trying to make.

Let me express my opinion on the poll above. The coloured wedding dress is a big no for me. Certain brides have rocked coloured dresses for their wedding and it looked fine on them but I’d prefer to go with the conventional white. Just like how most people in our part of the world wear white attire to celebrate success and victory, that’s the same way I’d rock a white gown as I walk down the aisle. It’s a milestone!

Then to the issue of makeup. I would like to have my face made up for my wedding. And when I say makeup, I’m not referring to those fake lashes, excessive face powder and foundation, too much eyeshadow and the like that make you end up looking very different from how everyone knows your face to be. Lol no! I want it to be natural and it should be just the right amount to light up my face on that special day.

That leaves me with the natural hair and no bridal train option. I’m quite stuck with these two but sincerely, I don’t mind rocking my natural hair for my wedding.

I would want a little company on that big day. Even if there aren’t a bevy of ladies like I’d prefer, just a maid of honour to accompany me would do.

It’s quite clear from the screen shot of the poll that most people would go with the ‘No bridal train” option. Well, the poll hasn’t ended and so I can’t conclude just yet. So tell me, which will you survive? I can’t wait to read your comments.

  1. I think I agree with you Mandy. The only ‘weird’ one for me would be the colored gown. I don’t wear makeup so I don’t see it as a huge sacrifice but I’d like to look nice on such a responsibility special day. Not a big fan of a bridal train either, just a maid of honor would do. At the end of day, you should feel comfortable in your celebration.

      1. Not at all. We’d make it a rainbow wedding and have the time of our lives, ourselves and our guestsπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  2. No make up? I can’t survive. I need the make up. A little bit hey. Just to look prettish (not a real word). Colored wedding dress? I’ve never loved the pure white dresses. Will never love them I guess. I’m more of a classic so I fall on Ivory dresses. The colour is just beautiful. 😍😍😍😍 Rock natural hair. I’d so do that. Curly and all. No bridal train. Happy to agree with him. I think bridal trains add to the levels of stress. I’d rather everyone sits and my husband and I are the only train.

  3. I don’t mind the colored dress, no bridal train and the natural hair. But a little make-up will do. I don’t really do make up, but i’d like to look a little more beautiful on my wedding day. For the dress de3 once it’s not any “huhuduos” color (like red or black) and it’s got Kente with light colors in it, i don’t mind

  5. Honestly, I don’t see any of the wishes above to be as weird. Certainly, getting the princess treatment with a little make up to enhance your beauty and not make you look like someone you’re not is not too much to ask for but even that can be done without for love especially if you know he fell for you; even the you with no makeup. Coloured wedding dresses are no longer as unconventional as they were decades ago and so colours like ivory, peach, cream, pale pink are cool as long as he does not suggest those “self-announcing” colours like orange, red, purple, I’m good. I rock my natural hair more often than not anymore so that’s down and finally the bridal train, I’d have loved some company too but even without, once those people are present at the wedding, I’m sold.
Does not mean I won’t ask him for a wish of my own, honeymoon in Abu-Dhabi is a must!!!

  6. Yeah as I was saying, none of the wishes seem weird to me and the colours you mentioned are great. I’ve seen many brides rock them, especially the cream and ivory. What I won’t agree to is the “self-announcing” colours as you said. Lol.
And with the Abu Dhabi wish, girl you rock! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

  7. Interesting. I won’t mind all four. I make up, am really into getting it hands on now but I don’t wear full makeup often and most days I rock my own face so I’ll use white powder and shea butter and go…lol.
White has never been my pick. Actually I’m hoping to bully my husband into doing a black wedding (I love black, even the lipstick :)), so white gown is no deal.
Bridal train can go. I need just my bestie as my maid of honour and for natural hair, I’m all into it.

  8. Definitely going for the ‘no bridal train’ optionπŸ™…πŸ™…πŸ™…πŸ™…πŸ™… so that whose money goes into paying for the brides maids dresses and shoes. NOT MEπŸ™…πŸ™…πŸ™…

    1. Lol Elsie. That makes sense though especially because you want to save cost. But I’ve heard stories of friends who support the bride by paying for the dresses and shoes themselves

  9. To be honest I had to think about this one. Obviously the coloured wedding dress was out because White is the traditional and ideal…..also I think it symbolises something else (not sure what) and I wouldn’t wanna the cause of my poor gran’s heart attack when I walk out in a Yellow wedding dress!

Make Up – I don’t know why I’m even discussing this. I’d even hire a professional to do the contouring and highlight etc.

No train? Nope. I have dreams of this gorgeous Oscar De La Renta with the longest train and veil ever. It’s simply beautiful. I must have it!

Natural Hair? Maybe! I think this is one I might not mind doing but I would still convince the husband otherwise hehe. I’m not too much into the natural hair game but I think if notified in advance, like 2 years in advance, I just might rock it on my wedding day lol

  10. Oh….by bridal train we meant ‘bridal party’? That I certainly WOULD mind! How dare you ladies who claim to be OK with just a maid of honor lol. I have enough sisters and cousins and friends I have been close to for 10 years or more to simply out for no bridal party! I still maintain the natural hair option lol

    1. Lol we’re all making do with the weird wish. So in case he still insists, I’d still want just a maid of honour. I don’t mind having a bevy of ladies accompanying me on my wedding day.
